The moss genus Codriophorus P. Beauv., established by Palisot de Beauvois i
n 1822, consisted of two species, namely C. acicularis (Hedw.) P. Beauv. an
d C. pulvinatus (Hedw.) P. Beauv., neither of which were designated as the
type. The nomenclatural history of this generic name is briefly outlined an
d C. acicularis (Hedw.) P. Beauv, is here chosen as its lectotype. Accordin
gly Codriophorus must be considered synonymous with Racomitrium Brid. and s
pecifically with Racomitrium sect. Stenotrichum (Chevall.) Bednarek-Ochyra
and subsect. Papillosa (Kindb.) Bednarek-Ochyra. Codonophorus P. Beauv, ex
