Abstract
Transcription can be controlled by regulating either the initiation or elon gation of RNA chains. Recent studies highlight the importance of an elongat ion regulator, Spt5, in controlling gene expression in yeast, fruit fly and zebrafish; Spt5 may provide a link between transcriptional elongation and cell fate.
