This article reviews 4 aspects of developmental-psychobiological metatheory
that are of particular relevance to developmental conceptions of neuropsyc
hology: probabilistic epigenesis, the various roles of experience in affect
ing the development of the nervous system, and the developmental principles
of equifinality and equipotentiality, the latter being especially pertinen
t to the understanding of compensatory phenomena observed in studies of ear
ly brain damage.
