A model to account for the role of the ceramic fillers in enhancing the tra
nsport properties of PEG-based composite polymer electrolytes is here propo
sed. The model is supported by a series of specifically addressed electroch
emical tests which included the determination of the conductivity and of th
e lithium transference number of various composite electrolyte samples diff
ering from the type of the surface states of the ceramic filler. (C) 2001 E
