Crystal structure of,2,4,6-tri-tert-butylphenyltrichlorogermane and 2,4,6-tri-tert-butylphenylgermane

Two organogermanium compounds, 2,4,6-(t-Bu)(3)C6H2GeCl3 (1) and 2,4,6-(t-Bu )(3)C6H2 GeH3 (2), were prepared and the structures were determined by X-ra y crystallography. Compound 1 exhibits unusual structural parameters due to the strong repulsion of the bulky t-butyl substituents and GeCl3 moiety; t he benzene ring assumes a boat conformation, and the GeCl3 group as well as the o-t-butyl groups stay significantly away from the benzene ring.
