Ch. Xu et al., The effect of creep properties on the oxidation behaviour of FeAl intermetallics at high temperatures, HIGH TEMP M, 20(1), 2001, pp. 1-10
Isothermal oxidation of doped and undoped FeAl specimens was performed at 1
000, 1100 and 1200 degreesC in ambient atmosphere for 50 hours. Slip deform
ation occurred on the substrate of undoped FeAl at 1100 and 1200 degreesC.
Pits on the specimen surface produced by etching were used to determine the
orientation of the FeAl grains. The creep strain and stress of the FeAl su
bstrate were evaluated based on creep kinetics. The sources of creep stress
es during oxidation and the orientation of the plastically deformed grains
were analysed. The relationship of slip system, creep stress and grain orie
ntation of the undoped FeAl was established. The effects of reactive elemen
ts on the properties of creep and scale spallation were also discussed.
