In this study effect of myo-inositol (MI, 100 mg.l(-1)) presence or absence
in culture medium during somatic embryogenesis of Abies numidica was studi
ed. Embryogenic tissue of A. numidica proliferated on MI free medium withou
t any Visual changes but growth analysis revealed faster proliferation on m
edium supplemented with MI. Maturation of somatic embryos was not expressiv
e influenced by MI. The highest number of regenerants with root was achieve
d, when proliferation, maturation and germination occurred on media without
MI. The presence of MI in germination medium very significantly decreased
the number of emblings with roots. Exogenously applicated MI influenced som
atic embryogenesis A. numidica although this process occurred on media with
and without MI. Optimized conditions of individual phases of somatic embry
ogenesis by omitting or addition of MI into the media can significantly aff
ect the yield of regenerants.
