The role played by Emilio Mira y Lopez in the ''Spanish model'' for th
e assessment of drivers, is presented. Mira left his native country, S
pain, because of the Spanish Civil War, and after living in several co
untries he setted down in Brazil. There he worked in different areas o
f psychology, one of which was the psychology of traffic. The model is
presented, and the differences between the assessment procedures pres
ently used in Spain and in Brazil, are indicated.
