A few complexes of uranium(IV) with 3-substituted-4-amino-5- mercapto-1,2,4
-triazole Schiff bases have been synthesized in dry benzene under nitrogen
atmosphere. Elemental analyses show that the complexes have 1:1 stoichiomet
ry of the type [U(OAc)(4)LH]. The bending of the ligands has been inferred
from IR spectroscopy. Magnetic moments obtained at room temperature are low
er than spin-only value. The lower magnetic moment values may be attributed
for the metal-metal interaction probably due to magnetic exchange in a dim
eric structure. The electronic reflectance spectral data suggested an octah
edral geometry for these uranium(IV) complexes. The kinetic and thermodynam
ic parameters were computed from the thermal decomposition data using Broid
o's method.
