One German term for idling(Mussig-Gehen) includes the verb "to go or walk."
Any such going is understood as agile movement, and not by any means as mo
tionlessness or as staying in a resting position. Yet when it comes to viol
ations of societal norms, sanctions are far sharper for what is actively do
ne than what is passively not done. This essay analyzes those poetic forms
which depict interpersonal relations either on stage or describes them visu
ally and novelistically, and in that sense presents literary examples of su
bversive idleness.
