Spasmodic torticollis and reproductive function in women

This investigation assessed a possible relationship between idiopathic spas modic torticollis (ST) and reproductive function in women. Fifth decade ST onset, the peak decade for menopause, was over represented. Menstrual exace rbation of symptoms was significantly more common than in controls. Oral co ntraceptive use and pregnancy did not have adverse effects. Reproductive di sorders and hysterectomy were significantly more common than in neurologica l and normal controls. The possibility that ST onset and severity may relat e to reproductive state and hormonal factors warrants further investigation . (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
