Using the CLEO II detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring we have mea
sured the Xi (0)(c) decay asymmetry parameter in the decay Xi (0)(c) --> Xi
(-)pi (+). We find alpha (o)(Xi)alpha (Xi)= 0.26+/- 0.18(stat)(-0.04)(+0.0
5)(syst); using the world average value of alpha (Xi)= - 0.456+/-0.014 we o
btain alpha (o)(Xic)= - 0.56 +/- 0.39(stat)(-0.09)(+0.10)(syst). The physic
ally allowed rang of a decay asymmetry parameter is - 1 <<alpha>< + 1. Our
result prefers a negative value: <alpha>Xi (0)(c) is <0.1 at the 90% C.L. T
he central value occupies the middle of the theoretically expected range bu
t is not yet precise enough to choose between models.
