The adsorption and the electric phenomena in the interfacial region: (I) -The electric potential pertaining to the adsorption between two immisciblephases in contact
T. Tolea et al., The adsorption and the electric phenomena in the interfacial region: (I) -The electric potential pertaining to the adsorption between two immisciblephases in contact, REV CHIM, 52(4), 2001, pp. 165-170
A system, consisting in two immiscible phases in contact, is considered. St
arting from the Gibbs' adsorption isotherm and Langmuir's adsorption isothe
rm, we get the expressions of the mathematic functions characterizing the e
lectric potential pertaining to the adsorption phenomenon in each of the ph
ases in contact. Then, we obtain the expression of the electric potential p
ertaining to the adsorption phenomenon in the interfacial region of the pha
ses in contact: Further we get the general expression of the mathematical f
unction of the electric potential pertaining to the adsorption between two
immiscible phases in contact. In the end, there are presented and discussed
some of the meanings of such a function for the ion-selective membrane, as
well as for the cell's membrane. The similarities between the cell membran
e and the ion-selective membrane [6], are also considered in the present st
udy.
