Abstract
Treatment of carboxylic acids with boron trichloride followed by addition o f alcohol provides the carboxylic eater. This esterification, following BCl 3 ether or eater O-C cleavage reaction conditions, proceeds cleanly in good yields with most substrates. Cleavage of benzyl esters with boron trichlor ide then treating with methanol affords the methyl ester. (C) 2001 Publishe d by Elsevier Science Ltd.
