The photoion excitation spectrum of NO has been measured in the 9.26-1
3.8 eV region using synchrotron light and the isotopic targets (NO)-N-
14-O-16, (NO)-N-15-O-16 and (NO)-N-15-O-18. The resulting complex spec
tra have been interpreted using ab initio results based on many-body t
heory. The ab initio predictions suggest that the structure follows fr
om autoionizations of four repulsive valence states of (2) Sigma symme
try and interactions between an attractive (2) Delta valence state and
Rydberg series converging to the NO+ ground state. (C) 1997 Published
