Oa. Garcia et M. Sarmiento, A note on the viability of Azospirillum brasilense in turf used as carrierin inoculated grass seeds, CUBAN J AGR, 34(4), 2000, pp. 343-345
Survival in time of Azospirillum brasilense was studied in turf used as car
rier and in the seeds of different grasses under controlled conditions. In
both experiments a completely randomized design and three replications, was
used. In the First experiment, bacteria concentration in the carrier durin
g the first 30 days was of 10(8) cfu/g of the inoculant and decreased at 60
days at 10 cfu/g remaining at this titer until one hundred twenty days. In
the second experiment on evaluating the number of bacteria in the seeds of
different grasses treated with the inoculant, bacteria concentration drast
ically decreased in all species after the third day. it is concluded that u
nder these experimental conditions the turf used as a solid carrier allows
for the viability of Azospirillum For 4 months and that in maize seeds ther
e was better bacterial performance.
