Cell cycle: Connecting DNA replication to sporulation in Bacillus

Checkpoints have been a staple of eukaryotic cell cycle research for the pa st decade, but little is known about checkpoints in prokaryotes. New work o n sporulation in Bacillus fills that gap by showing that such control syste ms function to coordinate aspects of the bacterial cell cycle.
