Coagulation and precipitation with ferric salts is a commonly used treatmen
t method for removal of arsenic from drinking water. But the sludge generat
ed during this process has a substantial concentration of arsenic (5.29 mg/
g of As present in the sun-dried sludge) and requires further treatment bef
ore its disposal into the environment. For the safe disposal of arsenic-bea
ring sludges, a solidification/stabilization (S/S) technique has been inves
tigated in the present study using binding materials such as cement, lime a
nd fly ash at various proportions.
