Wheat anther cultures have a history of almost 30 years and are now employe
d efficiently in many countries of the world for the development of doubled
haploid lines for breeding. The present paper discusses key questions of t
he elaboration and perfection of the method: cytological aspects of in vitr
o androgenesis, the conditions required for the embryogenic development of
microspores and the applicability of anther cultures in the Martonvasar whe
at breeding programme.
