c-Axis oriented multilayers of superconducting EuBa2Cu3O7 and insulati
ng SrTiO3 (EBCO/STO) have been grown by d.c. and r.f. magnetron sputte
ring, respectively, on (100) LaAlO3 (LAO) and (100) SrTiO3 (STO) subst
rates. These superconducting multilayers show good X-ray diffraction r
ocking curves and X-ray satellite peaks coming from the superlattice s
tructure. in these superlattices the CuO2 planes are parallel to the s
ubstrate plane. The modification of the growing conditions allows us t
o obtain pure a-axis oriented EBCO/STO superlattices with the CuO2 pla
nes running perpendicular to the substrate plane. The decrease of the
oxygen pressure in the chamber and the decrease of the substrate tempe
rature during deposition product textured good quality a-axis superlat
tices, with X-ray diffraction satellite peaks and superconducting tran
sitions close to the liquid nitrogen temperature.
