H-infinity control theory is applied in order to design a state feedback st
atic controller for field oriented control of an induction motor fed by a V
SI. From a theoretical point of view, H-infinity control theory cannot be a
pplied to induction motor drives because of intrinsic system nonlinearity,
but a linear plant can be set up using the same assumptions that are at the
basis of field oriented control. Thus, H-infinity control theory can be su
ccessfully used to set up a state feedback controller for field oriented co
ntrol of an induction motor. The performances of the control system are num
erically analysed and experimentally verified to prove the validity of the
design procedure. The results confirm that good dynamic performances and hi
gh robustness to variations of system parameters can be achieved by means o
f the proposed controller.
