K. Mori et T. Kobayashi, Downlink transmission power control for CDMA/shared-TDD packet communications in cellular environments, IEICE TR CO, E84B(6), 2001, pp. 1622-1630
The inter-cell interference between uplinks and downlinks in CDMA packet co
mmunication systems, employing a shared-TDD scheme, is evaluated under cell
ular environments. It is found that interference between base stations rare
ly degrades uplink throughput. but interference between mobile stations sub
stantially degrades downlink throughput. A transmission power control schem
e is proposed to improve the downlink throughput. The proposed scheme incre
ases the transmission power of downlink packets when they are re-transmitte
d, and thus, improves the signal-to-interference ratio of the downlink re-t
ransmission packets. Computer simulation shows that this scheme increases d
ownlink throughput without sacrificing the uplink throughput until the upli
nk throughput reaches a maximum value.
