Ml. Doherty et al., Combined oxytetracycline-flunixin therapy in field cases of acute bovine respiratory disease, IRISH VET J, 54(5), 2001, pp. 232-238
A clinical study was undertaken to investigate the efficacy of a single inj
ection of Long-acting Key words oxytetracycline and flunixin in the treatme
nt of field cases of acute pneumonia in cattle. Cattle, Tilmicosin was used
as a positive control treatment, Six hours following treatment, body Calve
s, temperature in animals treated with oxytetracycline and flunixin had fal
len sharply and was significantly Lower than in the animals treated with ti
lmicosin (P<0.001). At six hours, animals treated with the combination ther
apy also had significantly Lower respiratory rates than those treated with
tilmicosin (P<0.05). At 24 hours after treatment, body temperature was stil
l significantly Lower in the animals which received the combined oxytetracy
cline/flunixin combination (P<0.05). Over the complete period of clinical o
bservation, the oxytetracycline-flunixin treatment produced a clinical reso
lution of the pneumonia equivalent to treatment with tilmicosin alone.
