Magnetic and electronic states of Co 3d and Pt 5d electrons in a ferro
magnetic alloy, CoPt3, are investigated by measuring magnetic circular
dichroism (MCD) in photoabsorption. Contribution of the orbital angul
ar momentum in the 3d magnetic moment is estimated using the MCD of Co
2p XAS. MCD with a quite unusual line shape was found for Pt 4f XAS a
nd the origin of the line-shape is shown to be the strong Fano interfe
rence.
