Determination of trace aluminum in the form of 8-hydoxylquinoline chelate b
y reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography and spectrophotomet
ric detection is described in this paper. The optimization of the experimen
tal conditions including precolumn complexation, chromatographic separation
, and detection wavelength is comprehensively investigated. The response is
linear from 0.002 to 0.3 mug/mL with a detection limit of 0.002 mug/mL. Th
e relative standard deviation is 3.6% at an A1 concentration of 0.2 mug/mL.
The reliability of the entirely optimized procedure is confirmed by the di
rect analyses performed on ten real drinking and natural water samples.
