The origin of the spin-glass-like low-temperature phase in mechanically all
oyed Fe30W40Ag30 has been investigated with hysteresis loops, AC and DC sus
ceptibility measurements. The magnetic glassy behavior is revealed by the c
haracteristic irreversibility between the zero-field-cooled (ZFC) and the f
ield-cooled (FC) magnetization, and by the small frequency sensitivity of t
he AC susceptibility vs. temperature peak. The collective freezing of inter
acting nanoclusters is suggested as the mechanism responsible for the obser
ved properties. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
