Improved spectroscopic parameters for the I(1)Delta (2) Rydberg state and r
otational population in the ground state of HCl are derived from simulation
analysis of the (3 + 1)REMPI specrum. The superiority of using the (3 + I)
REMPI spectrum of HCl in the excitation region 88.200-88.900 cm-l for spect
roscopic and dynamic purposes are demonstrated. The mechanism of the three-
photon excitation in the I(1)Delta (2)-X(1)Sigma (+) transition is discusse
