The synthesis and characterization of the new polyfunctional ligand phen-pz
a (5-bis[2-(3,5-dimethyl-1-pyrazolyl)ethyl]amine-1,10-phenanthroline) are d
escribed. Also reported are the preparations and some photophysical propert
ies of the ruthenium(II) and rhenium(I) complexes [Ru(bpy)(2)(phen-pza)](PF
6)(2) (bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine) and [Re(CO)(3)Br(phen-pza)], respectively, an
d the supramolecular copper(I) adducts [Ru(bpy)(2)(phen-pzaCu(I))](PF6)(3)
and [Re(CO)(3)Br(phen-pzaCu(I))](PF6). Limited studies of copper(II) adduct
s and photophysical changes upon reaction with NO are also described. The s
ynthesis, structural characterization and some redox chemistry of the model
copper(II) complex [Cu(pza)](CF3SO3)(2) (pza = bis[2-(3,5-dimethyl-1-pyraz
olyl)ethyl]amine) are reported as are the syntheses and characterizations o
f 5-diethylamino-1,10-phenanthroline (phen-dea) and rhenium(I) complex Re(C
O)(3)Br(phen-dea).
