Jg. Wang et al., Influence of rare earth elements (Sc, La, Gd, and Lu) to the luminescent properties of FED blue phosphor Y2SiO5 : Ce, J ELCHEM SO, 148(6), 2001, pp. H61-H66
The emission spectra of Y2SiO5:Ce were analyzed by Gaussian peak fitting. T
he emission mainly can be attributed to the transitions of 5d to F-2(5/2) a
nd F-2(7/2) of Ce3+ ions. A weak peak at similar to 460 nm arises from an i
ndependent luminescent center. Both the luminescent intensity and the peak
height ratio are affected by Ce3+ content. For choosing an optimized Ce3+ c
ontent, the balance between brightness and color saturation was considered.
Sc3+ and La3+ cannot replay Y3+ to form solid solutions and doping them re
duced luminescence very much. Y3+ can be replaced by Gd3+ and Lu3+ to form
solid solution in some ranges. The replacement of Gd3+ decreased the lumine
scence, whereas Lu3+ enhances the luminescence about 20% under cathode ray
excitation. Lu-doping also improves color saturation. (C) 2001 The Electroc
