Abstract
The local deformation around whiskers was investigated by microstructural o bservations and misorientation determination in Al-SiCw materials. A model based on local lattice rotation was proposed to explain the formation of mi sorientation. The experimental results are in good agreement with the sugge sted model. The misorientation can be predicted by the Taylor and Bishop-Hi ll models. The deformation zone is often asymmetric with respect to the axi s of the whisker, which differs from that predicted from finite element cal culations. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V.
