Abstract
In July 2000, the Institut de veille sanitaire established a working group in order to establish the priorities, resources and methods for improving t he knowledge, prevention and control of non-food-related zoonoses. The grou p established a list of diseases, prioritised them according to their impor tance for public health, identified the requirements for each disease, and evaluated whether the current control programmes and surveillance systems w ere both sufficient and attained their objectives. If any inadequacies were identified, remedial actions were proposed. A list of 37 diseases was anal ysed according to the criteria defined by the working group and they were c lassed as priority, important and non-priority. For priority and important diseases the evaluation is ongoing and the results will be available in May 2001. (C) 2001 Editions scientifiques et medicales Elsevier SAS.
