Abstract
The review presents a brief description of the most useful methods used in various countries to eliminate PRRSV from swine herds. The basic methods - de-population and partial de-population are described. In addition the poss ibility of producing PRRS sero-negative pigs from vaccinated stable PRRS-po sitive sow herds was analysed. The article also discusses various other met hods of PRRS eradication, i.e,: eliminating PRRS virus from sow continuous flow farrow-to-finish farms - applying vaccine and test-and removal procedu res; eradicating PRRSV by introducing negative replacement gilts into a ser opositive herd; eliminating PRRSV from infected herds by using test-and-rem oval and wean-and-removal protocols, Problems concerning future perspective s of PRRS vaccines were also raised.
