The purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of solutally induced flo
w on segregation during a solidification process. An idealized horizontal B
ridgman configuration with moving. planar solid-liquid interface has been n
umerically simulated.
Solutally induced flows are first described, before analysing axial and rad
ial segregations. It is found that in the "convective" range, segregation r
esults compare very well with power laws obtained in the frame of an order
of magnitude analysis. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
