Abstract
A brief overview and history of the Female Adolescent Initiative, a program funded by the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention, is given. Findings fr om selected programs and a synthetic summary of what the program interventi onists learned are presented. The authors use the results from these progra ms to develop a framawork to guide the next generation of scholars scholars who focus on gender-specific substance abuse prevention and provide specif ic suggestions for designing the next generation of gender-specific program s.
