The constitutive properties of hard alpha Ti were recently generated by Cha
n et al., 2000, "Constitutive Properties of Hard Alpha Titanium," Metall. a
nd Maters. Trans. A. Vol. 31A, pp. 3029-3040, using uniaxial compression, i
ndirect tension, indentation, and plane strain compression tests. Flow stre
ss and fracture strength of hard alpha were measured as a function of stres
s state, strain rate, temperature, and nitrogen content. Hard alpha exhibit
ed plastic flow at low nitrogen contents (<4 wt. percent N), but elastic fr
acture at high nitrogen contents (>6 wt, percent N). In this paper. this se
t of constitutive data is used to develop constitutive equations for descri
bing the inelastic deformation and damage accumulation behavior of hard alp
ha Ti.
