Air emersion stress caused an elevation in blood plasm cortisol of rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss but this acute stressor did not elicit chloride c ell proliferation in the gill tissue within 2 weeks following the disturban ce. (C) 2001 The Fisheries Society of the British Isles.
