Raman spectroscopy is found to be an effective technique to characterize th
e symmetrical peroxy bond vibration frequencies of per/poly fluorodiacyl pe
roxides (RfCOO)(2) (R-f = CF3, C2F5, n-C3F7, n-C7F15. H(CF2)(2,4,6). 1-7) i
n F-113 (CCIF2CCl2F) solution. The Raman absorptions of the peroxy bond (v(
O-O)) and carbonyl bond (v(C=O)) for these compounds are strong. The v(O-O)
frequencies of (RfCOO)(2) range from 699 to 731 cm(-1), which are much low
er than those of non-fluorinated peroxides (8-12). [H(CF2)(2)COO](2) exhibi
ts a low frequency v(O-O) of 699 cm(-1). which may be due to intermolecular
hydrogen bonding. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
