Electron absorption, excitation and emission as well as electron spin-reson
ance spectra were measured for orthorhombic (K, Rb, Cs) and monoclinic (Li,
Na) (MCrxIn1-x)-Cr-I (MoO4)(2) (x = 0 5-2%, M-I = Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs) in th
e temperature range 5-300 K. The local structure of the Cr3+ ions is discus
sed on the basis of spectroscopic results and the crystal-field parameters
are derived for all of the materials. The possible application of the compo
unds studied as laser materials is discussed.
