Abstract
The Mie scattering calculations are usually performed for non-absorbing sph erical particles embedded in a non-absorbing medium. We consider a case of an absorbing sphere placed in an absorbing medium. We find, by numerical ca lculation for large size parameter of the order of 10(4), that the scatteri ng efficiency of a spherical particle in an absorbing medium approaches the reflectance of a plane surface at perpendicular incidence.
