From the roots of Parahancornia amapa, family Apocynaceae, the following co
mpounds were isolated and identified nine new and ten known 3b-O-acyl lupeo
l esters, b-sitosterol, stigmasterol, b-sitosterone, the triterpenoids b-am
yrin, a-amyrin, lupeol and their acetyl derivatives. The structures of thes
e compounds were established by spectroscopic data, mainly H-1 and C-13 (HB
BD and DEPT) NMR spectra. The methyl esters obtained by hydrolysis of acyl
lupeol esters and methylation of the corresponding acids were characterized
by MS-GC analysis.
