Abstract
Fluvoxamine maleate and fluoxetine hydrochloride react with eriochrome cyan ine R and form pink ion-association compounds. These compounds are insolubl e in water, but fairly soluble in organic solvents. Addition of methylcellu lose affects the solubility of the compounds and increases the absorbance o f the solution. Optimal reaction conditions have been established, and a ne w spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of flu voxamine and fluoxetine in the concentration ranges 0.6-15 and 0.3-5.0 mug/ cm(3) respectively.
