Am. Ahmed et al., Protein patterns in germinating seeds of Vicia faba lines in response to interactive effects of salinity and vitamins treatments, PHYTON AUST, 41(1), 2001, pp. 97-110
Using germinating seeds of Vicia faba lines, this work was conducted to fol
low the protein patterns in germinating seeds after being subjected to the
interactive effects of salinity and vitamins. Therefore, the seeds of the t
wo broad bean lines 67 and 13 were treated with salinity (180 mM NaCl) or v
itamins (100 ppm vit. B-6 Or Vit. PP). Salinity stress increased the number
s of protein bands, which originally appeared in the control of broad bean
line 67 (salt-tolerant). No considerable effect of salinity stress on the p
rotein patterns in bean line 13 (salt-sensitive) was observed. Seed treatme
nts with vitamins (vit. B-6 or vit. PP) induced the synthesis and increased
the intensity of the original protein bands (control), and caused the appe
arance of additional new bands in the two tested broad bean lines. Moreover
, the polypeptides in two tested lines disappeared under salinity stress; t
hey reappeared when these salinized seedlings were treated with vitamins.
