The effect of trans-cis photoisomerisation of azo-fragments of a polymer fi
lm on the molecular reorientation of a liquid crystal is studied. It is sho
wn that, using nanosecond laser pulses, one can perform both the reversible
and static data recording in liquid-crystal cells with an ate-modified sur
face. The rise time of the reorientation is measured by the methods of dyna
mic holography to be about similar to 30 mus, and the grating efficiency ac
hieves 15%.
