"Regarding the processes in school democratization" describes several aspec
ts of developing democratization processes on an empirical basis of surveys
in St. Petersburg schools. The paper centers at real participation of vari
ous population groups (teachers, officials, parents, students) in administe
ring school operation with the aim of bringing about conditions for new for
ms of social controls, wider rights of teachers for their creative educatio
nal activities, students rights observation, etc. It is concluded that cert
ain new democratic developments did not yet take shape in any socially mean
ingful sense, and public bodies did not so far develop their potential in t
he school.
