Research needs for coatings on glass. Summary of the US Department of Energy roadmapping workshop

A workshop entitled Coatings on Glass was held on 18-19 January 2000 at San dia National Laboratories in Livermore, CA, USA with the purpose of identif ying key targets for improvement, technology barriers, and research needs r elevant to the manufacturing of coated glass products. Experts from the gla ss and coatings industries, universities, and government laboratories parti cipated. Small groups focussed on the needs of the four major sectors of th e coatings industry: flat glass; container glass; fiber glass; and specialt y coatings. The large number of recommendations are summarized briefly in t his article. A report giving complete details is available from the author for those wishing to obtain additional information.
