Mf. Neurath et al., Regulation of T-cell apoptosis in inflammatory bowel disease: to die or not to die, that is the mucosal question, TRENDS IMMU, 22(1), 2001, pp. 21-26
T-cell resistance against apoptosis contributes to inappropriate T-cell acc
umulation and the perpetuation of chronic mucosal inflammation in inflammat
ory bowel diseases (IBDs). Anti-interleukin-12 (IL-12) and anti-IL-6 recept
or antibodies suppress colitis activity by the induction of T-cell apoptosi
s. These findings have important implications for the design of effective t
reatment regimens in IBD.
