A novel supramolecular compound [H-2(C18H18N2O2)] (SCN)(2) was obtained by
reaction of Fe(NO3)(3) and KSCN with C18H18N2O2. This compound has a two -
dimensional network structure, in which there exists three types of hydroge
n bonds: N . . .H . . .N, S . . .H-C(CH2) and S . . .H-C(CH). The structure
of this supramolecule was established by X - ray diffraction: triclinic, g
roup space P (1) over bar, a = 0.69115(14) nm, b = 0.86367(17) nm, c = 0.91
352(18) nm, alpha = 84.03(3)degrees, beta = 78.65(3)degrees, gamma = 81.87(
3)degrees, V = 0.52764(18) nm(3), Z = 2, R = 0.0670. This compound in DMF s
olution shows strong third - order non - linear optical properties with a c
alculated chi ((3)) of 6.27 x 10(-12) esu.
