Abstract
The gene encoding a B-lactamase of Prevotella intermedia was cloned and seq uenced. This gene, called cfxA2, shared 98% identity with cfxA, the structu ral gene of a beta -lactamase previously described in Bacteroides vulgatus. The deduced protein sequence had a K272E substitution. CfxA2 had the chara cteristics of class A, group 2e beta -lactamases.
