Two essential oils of the leaves of the medicinal plant Syzygium travancori
cum (Myrtaceae) from Southern India have been investigated by gas chromatog
raphy combined with spectroscopy (GC-FID and GC-MS), by gas chromatography
combined with olfactory analysis (GCs), and by olfactory methods alone (olf
actory evaluation and odor-threshold correlation) to identify compounds res
ponsible for the characteristic odors (woody-herbal, spicy, aromatic-floral
, fruity, and earthy-fatty) of each sample, and for seasonally-dependent od
or differences.
