A simple, reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatographic method for
the simultaneous determination of N-phenylhydroxylamine and related nitrog
en-containing compounds, without poor peak asymmetries, is described. The a
nalytes were detected at different wavelength depending on their absorbance
maxima using a diode array detector after separation on an octadecyl-bonde
d silica, Inertsil ODS-2, with aqueous potassium citrate buffered (pH 7) mo
bile phase modified with methanol as organic solvent under gradient elution
. The determined limits of quantification, measuring peak areas relative to
an internal standard (N-tertbutyl-2-benzothiazolesulphenamide), are in the
range of ng.mL(-1).
